The Montreal Mining Company formed after the Pittsburg and Boston Company sold much of its lands once the Cliff Mine was opened. In 1857, the mine was purchased by the French Mining Company (the owners of the Clark Mine) and worked a black copper oxide vein, much like the material found at Copper Harbor. The property was bought by Calumet & Hecla in 1905, but no additional work occurred. No copper production was recorded from Montreal.
