A former underground Pb-Ag-Zn-Cu-Au mine located on 5 claims extending into Squaw Gulch, in east-central (NW¼SW¼) sec. 18, T.21S., R.15E., located in Alto Gulch about 1 mile SE of the Alto Mine, at an elevation of about 5,400 feet, on private land. Discovered in 1885 and worked until 1889. Owned at times, or in part, by Mr. William Powers and associates (circa 1915); the Bland Mining Co.; Henderson; Ayala; Russell; and, Barclay.

Mineralization is irregular fault veins with partly oxidized lenses of massive pyrite and chalcopyrite; banded quartz with sulfides; and some disseminated pyrite and chalcopyrite in crushed wall rock and gouge. The wall rock is Jurassic granite intruded by Laramide quartz monzonite.

The deposits are principally contained in a main vein which occupies a fault fissure in diorite and stands about vertical or dips steeply to the north. It is supposed to extend westward to the Alto ground. It is from 3 to 6 feet wide and consists principally of gouge and crushed diorite in which the ore minerals are generally disseminated. The better ore consists largely of lenses of almost pure massive chalcopyrite which pitch to the east. The wall rock for 5 or 6 feet from the vein is impregnated with disseminated pyrite and chalcopyrite.

Workings include a tunnel and drift aggregating about 1,500 feet of work. Worked sporadically from the 1880's to 1948. Produced some 700 tons of ore averaging about 18% Pb, 14 oz. Ag/T, 4% Cu, 4% Zn, and minor Au.
