The 'Sulphur Band' is a misnomer, the yellow colour comes from the mineral Jarosite. It appears 50cm beneath the Gault Clay in the Folkestone Beds of the Lower Greensand.

It is composed of quartz, mudstone, limestone and phosphate 'pebbles' (many of which are abraded internal moulds from ammonites, bivalves, brachiopods, etc.

The coordinates given are for a typical exposure near Folkestone indicative of the band rather than any attempt to record the center.
