A former small underground Pb-Zn-Ag-Cu-Au (Bi) mine located in the SE¼ sec. 24, T.22S., R.10E, on National Forest land. Discovered in 1893 by Dr. Noon. Produced 1893 and in the 1940's. Owned at times, or in part, by Noon; Anderson, and, Fickett.
Mineralization is a group of intersecting, lensing, quartz-fissure veins that intersect at small angles, with disseminated and spotty sulfides, partly oxidized, in Cretaceous conglomerate. Some minor bismuth mineralization. The host rock unit is the Oro Blanco Formation and the Cobre Ridge Tuff. The ore zone is 80.77 meters long, 1.22 meters wide, and has a depth to bottom of 60.96 meters. It strikes NE and dips 31 to 60SE. Ore control was the fracturing of the host conglomerate. Sampling in 1940 showed averages of .01 oz/ton Au, 4.1 oz/ton Ag, 7.5% Pb, and 7.6% Zn.
Local structures include block faulting. The mine is on a major NW-trending fault. Quartz veins in the region trend NE-SW and E-W, dipping 30°N and 73°SE, respectively.
Workings include mostly crude operations prior to 1900. Workings include tunnel and shaft operations totaling 30.48 meters in length and 60.96 meters deep. Originally prospected in the late 1800's but mainly worked from 1948 through 1950. It produced some 420 tons of ore averaging about 7% each of Pb and Zn, 5 oz. Ag/T and minor copper and gold. Possibly up to 1,000 oz. of gold-silver amalgam were produced.
