A former surface and underground W mine located in the SW¼ sec. 7 & the NW¼ sec. 18, T.23S., R.14E, on private land. Owned at times, or in part, by the Regan Brothers & Peck (1975); and, Loftus.
Mineralization is a group of 3 lensing quartz fissure veins, comb-structured and banded, with spotty wolframite and minor scheelite, cutting Jurassic quartz monzonite and in a dike swarm of chloritized and locally epidotized lamprophyre. Mineralization appears shallow, local, and pockety.
The veins, beginning on the west are spaced respectively 60 and 30 feet apart, in much altered and weathered quartz monzonite, the veins occur chiefly in the north-south or younger set of fissures. They strike N.25ºW., parallel with the younger dikes, and have a nearly vertical dip. They offset by a throw of a few feet two of the older east-west dikes.
The two outside veins are small and well-banded and contain minor amounts of wolframite. The "tungsten" ore is usually next to the wall rock, and the vein has a central band of comby quartz, showing that the ore minerals were deposited mainly during the early stages of fissure filling. The middle vein ranges from 1 to 2 feet (30 to 60 cm) in width and consists largely of quartz in which occur pockets and stringers of wolframite. The deposition seems to have been repeated, as the banding fgrom the wall inward is quartz (0.2 inch), wolframite (0.3 inch), quartz (o.25 inch), wolframite (0.1 inch), and quartz. The banding is not at all regular, however, wolframite locally filling the entire space inside the first quartz bands. Scheelite occurs as minute crystals in the quartz near the bands of wolframite.
Workings include pit and open cut operations, plus a 30 foot shaft. Wolframite was discovered in 1906 and the deposit was worked sporadically in the early 1900's and late 1930's. Estimated production would be about 1,500 pounds of 50% WO3 concentrates.
