Gulpen-Wittem is a municipality in the southeastern Netherlands. It came into being after the merger of the municipalities Gulpen and Wittem.

The Gulpen Formation consists of predominantly soft, fine-grained limestone, deposited in a shallow marine environment. The lower part contains 50-90% CaCO₃ and glauconite. The upper part contains 80-95% CaCO₃ and distinctive flint nodules, which may constitute up to 20% of its volume.
