A former surface and underground Au-Ag-Fe mine located in North-central sec. 34, T8S, R23W, about 1 mile SE of Yuma, on county land. Owned at times, or in part, by Hedgepeth; Timmons & Gutchmaker; Burton; and, the Fay Mining Co.
Mineralization is gold-bearing, iron-stained quartz, with local pyrite and pockets of limonite, in stringers and veins along fractures and faults in Mesozoic or Laramide gneiss. The ore zone is 0.61 meters wide, strikes SW-NE, and dips SE. The gneiss has been cut by many fractures and minor faults.
Workings include several old shaft(s), a few short drifts and shallow open cut operations. Worked originally in the early 1900's and later in 1939-1940, and 1947. In 1906 several sacks of rich gold ore was shipped. It produced some 450 tons of ore averaging about 0.3 oz. Au/T with minor Ag.
