Flying Dutchman Mine
A small former underground Au-Cu-Ag-Fe mine located in sec. 7 and in the NW¼ sec. 18, T7N, R17W (Bouse 15 minute topo map), 6 road miles NW of Bouse (Bouse Wash is 4 miles SE of the mine), on BLM-administered land. Owned at times, or in part, by Adams; Bouse & McMahon (McMann ?)(discoverers); Great Western Gold & Copper Mining & Milling Co. (1926-1928); Protection Gold & Copper Co. (1929); Southwest Corp. of Missouri; Grossback; Graner; F.G. Bradbury (1934).
Mineralization is spotty, very fine-grained to visible flaky gold, with oxidized copper ores and staining, in a linear, lenticular ore body in a steeply dipping fault zone cutting metamorphic Mesozoic, red, hematitic shale. Lenticular orebody formed from oxidation and enrichment in a fault zone. Ore concentration was oxidation and enrichment in the fault zone.
Workings include a 400 foot (121.92 meter) deep shaft and about 170 feet of drifts on the 100 level & some near-surface stopes on the 100 level. This mine was worked sporadically from the early 1900's through 1941 and then principally through the 40's and early 1950's, producing some 1,050 tons of ore averaging about 0.07 oz. Au/T, 1.8% Cu and 0.1 oz. Ag/T. A carload of ore was produced in 1929.
