The Rockland Mining Company was organized in 1853 and worked until 1870, when the company was shut down and passed into the National Mining Company. Work continued on tribute until 1880 when the mine closed for good. The Rockland Mine produced approx. 5.8 million lbs. of refined copper. The mine piles produce some quality copper, silver, and prehnite crystals.
