A former small underground Au-Ag-Pb mine located on 30 claims, in the center and SE¼SE¼ sec. 4, T.14S., R.27E, on the east side of upper Buckeye Canyon, 2 miles NE of Dos Cabezas Peaks. Discovered 1880. Owned at times, or in part, by the Buckeye Mining & Milling Co. and the Buckeye Apache Mines, Co. NOTE: Alternate coordinates provided: 32.24056N, 109.5853W.
Mineralization is auriferous pyrite and argentiferous galena in quartz veins along fissure zones in Precambrian granitic rock (quartz monzonite). Ore control was veins. The veins are from 3 to 15 feet wide, although 3 foot of width is most common. The veins are mineralized for 1000 to 2000 feet in length. The main Buckeye vein strikes N-S and dips 20W. The other ore vein, the Apache, strikes E-W and dips 45S. Associated rock units include rhyolite, andesite and granite.
Workings include 2000 feet of tunnels and 250 feet of crosscuts plus one 35 degree inclined shaft, 30 feet deep. Sporadic production of about 4,000 tons from the late 1800's to the late 1940's.
