Rydbom Mine


A former small underground Zn-Ag-Pb-Cu-Au mine located in sec. 11 and the South-central sec. 12, T.20S., R.27E. (Swisshelm Mountain 7.5 minute topo map), about 9 miles ESE of Elfrida. Produced 1960-1965. MPM Mining and Exploration Corp., Operator (1986). Previous operators include Rydbom.

Mineralization is oxidized zinc and minor lead and copper ores in an irregular orebody in an overthrust block of Pennsylvanian-Permian Naco Group limestone. Ore control was fault and fracture zones.

Local structures include Pennsylvanian Naco Limestone on the upthrown side of a NW-trending fault which strikes NW. NNW thrust faults in the Swisshelms overthrust the Naco group over rhyolite porphyry.

Workings include a shaft and tunnels. During the 1984-86 period, MPM carried out geologic mapping and surface drilling of this property.
Some 210 tons of ore were produced during 1960-1961.
