A former small underground Pb-Ag-Au-Cu mine located on a group of 4 claims (Horn Silver, Great American, Alice and Sulphuretts), in the SE ¼ sec. 1 and sec. 12, T.20S., R.27E, about 3 miles N of Swisshelm Mountain, on private land. Discovered 1880. Produced 1880-1973. Operated at times, or in part, by the Great American Mining Co. (Ben Henry); the Fourhorse Mining Co.; Old Dominion Com. Co.; Alpine Mining Co.; Sheerer and Hansen (1912); and, the Swisshelm Mining Co.

Mineralization is oxidized galena in irregular replacement orebodies in folded and faulted Pennsylvanian-Permian Naco Group limestone. Alteration is strong oxidation.

Local structures include limestone surrounded by overlying Tertiary rhyolite. The Pennsylvanian Naco Group strikes NW and dips 20N. NNW faults in Swisshelms overthrust placed Naco group over rhyolite porphyry.

Workings are tunnels totaling 411.48 meters in length and 45.72 meters deep. Workings include two shafts on the Horn Silver claim (15 and 30 feet deep) and numerous adits on the Great American claim the longest of which is 675 feet long, and reaches more than 150 feet below the surface.

Some 1,500 tons of ore were produced intermittently from the 1880's to 1940. Muntain Queen production figures include the Great American for 1925, 1934, and 1935. 1937 and 1938 production in ABGMT-USBM files may include the Mountain Queen Mine.
