Miyake-jima (三宅島, "Miyake Island") is a volcanic island in the Izu archipelago in the Philippine Sea approximately 180 kilometres (ca. 112 mi) southeast of Tokyo, Japan. As with the other islands in the Izu Island group, Miyake-jima forms part of the Fuji-Hakone-Izu National Park.

Small island with active volcano. Augite-olivine basalt. Famous as the classic locality for anorthite crystals, thousands of which were thrown out loose by the July 1874 eruption and distributed in collections around the world; usually coated with a film of reddish or blackish glassy lava. Some crystals display metallic schiller caused by discontinuous included films of native copper and/or copper-zinc alloys. Visiting and collecting here is sometimes impeded by eruptions of SO₂ and H₂S gas.
