An abandoned small mine, worked in the late 1800s.
Description: Early gold and silver prospect;
Locality: East of Watcombe Beach, ~500m E of Penguin.
Host Rock: Cambrian volcanics and siliceous breccias.
Mineralisation Age: Cambrian
Form: Stockwork
Commodities: Gold, Silver
Gangue: Dolomite, Magnetite, Pyrite, Pyrrhotite
* Manganese has been found nearby on Watcombe beach *.
This was worked about the same time, but the old workings seem to be filled and obscured in the bush or under the train line. It produced some gold, silver and copper. Copper staining (including possible connellite), magnetite and pyrite can be seen on the outcrops, which are mostly siliceous rocks containing drusy vughs, apparently replacing dolostone.
