Salines de Vilanova de la Sal
The saltworks are located next to the LV9045 road, which connects the village of Vilanova de la Sal with the railway station of the Generalitat de Catalunya and the Camarasa reservoir. It is 1.7 km from Vilanova de la Sal and about 2 km from the old village of Privà.
Access to the saltworks is from a path that crosses the jumping of the ravine where the salt water left over from the process of obtaining the salt goes. The saltworks occupy a space of about 3,000 m².
The pools or areas where the water evaporates to obtain salt are arranged in a staggered manner. Workers deposited a few centimeters of salt water that was allowed to evaporate and then salt was collected. These rafts have undergone transformations and only in some of them, the base made with large stone slabs is preserved.
The saltworks of Vilanova de la Sal stopped working at the end of the 1970's.
The saltworks are currently (and have been for the last few years) owned by the Ascalfò association. You must ask the owner permission for a visit to the saltworks (see link below).
Otherwise, access is strictly prohibited.
