The Indian Stream Republic, with its own constitution and independent government existed from July 9, 1832 to 1835. In 1835, the New Hampshire Militia occupied the area, following a vote by the Indian Stream Congress authorizing annexation to the United States. Incorporated as the town of Pittsburg in 1840.
