Kaolinitized pegmatites worked for gemstones (tourmalines) hosted in altered micaschist and quartzite. In 1964 the Vavatany consisted of 4 quarries.
The largest quarry (in 1964) is located 600m NW of the village of Reninoro and 800m NE of the Vavatany signal. The others are found around the village:
1: 350m NW of the village.
2: 350m NE of the village.
3: N of the Andohariana stream, 800 m NE of the village.
