Teis (Italian Tiso) is a frazione of the municipality of Villnöß in South Tyrol (Italy). The village is located at the transition from the Funes Valley to the Eisack Valley at an altitude of 963 m. The hamlet of Nafen, located slightly below, also belongs to Teis. The name of the place was first mentioned in a document in 1157 as “Tisis”. Teis was an independent municipality until 1929, when the fascist administration merged it with the municipality of Villnöß.

Basaltic rocks intruded in a Permo-Carboniferous andesite.

The place became known for the so-called 'Teis spheres' ('Theiser Kugeln') (druses made of quartz porphyry tuff) found in the area, which can also be viewed in the Teis Mineral Museum, see https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mineralienmuseum_Teis .

Collecting in this area is forbidden without a permit; the latter can be obtained for 6 EUR at the local museum (situation 2008).
