Mining Surveyor Coates states in 1866, the reef is between Conroy and Butchers gullies. Co-ordinates approximate.
The reef strikes north-west, and dips 75 degrees north. Quartz or 'rubble' veins are found below red ferruginous clays, limestone, and semi decomposed fragments. The vein system is 20 inches wide, and at a depth of 25 feet, becomes more compact. The vein is separated from the hanging and footwalls by yellow clay 2 inches wide, containing considerable gold, and in the quartz veins themselves. The veins are hosted by dark ferruginous schist, dipping north-east 15 degrees, but dipping 65 degrees over the lode.
