Shek Harn means 'big stone ditch' in Cantonese (according to the New Zealand Department of Conservation- apologises to Chinese readers if this is incorrect). It is a little visited site, roughly 20 kilometres west of Alexandra. To reach cross the bridge south of Alexandra on the main highway and immediately turn into Earnscleugh Road. At the end of this turn right, and almost immediately left on Fraser Dam Road and follow this to its terminus at Fraser Dam. It is then a 60 minute return walk to the site up the Fraser River valley. The last part of the road can only be negotiated in dry weather and is rough.

Its one of the few places in the world where it is impossible to find a photograph of online, however the Department of Conservation reliably informs us there are impressive ruins (Chinese miner's huts), and old gold workings at the location.
