A Pt-Pd-Cu-Ni-Ag occurrence/geologic complex in the Glen Mountains and in part of the Wichita Mountains, located in T4N, R17W, Indian Meridian, about 3 miles SE of Roosevelt and 125 miles SW of Oklahoma City. Owned by the Anaconda Company (1983-).
A PGE-base metals deposit hosted in troctolite and anorthosite. The ore body is stratiform and disseminated. Controls for ore emplacement included the intrusion of crosscutting igneous rocks. The mineralized area extends farther E within the Glen Mountains complex as well as in the Wichita Mountains. Pt was found in one sample with a scanning electron microscope. Local alteration includes sericitization, uralitization, sauceritization, and minor silicification. Associated rocks include Late Cambrian Glen Mountains Layered Complex; Roosevelt Gabbros. Local rocks include rocks of the Raggedy Mountain Gabbro group (comprised of the Glen Mountains layered complex and Roosevelt gabbros).
PGE occur near crosscutting intrusions in hydrothermally altered rocks which suggests a primary magmatic origin with possible later concentration by hydrothermal processes. The sulfides are either associated with ilmeno-magnetite or as discrete grains not associated with oxide minerals. The location within the complex rather than at the base suggests a possible similarity to Merensky Reef type deposits. Unpublished model name: Magmatic segregtion.
Regional geologic structures include a regional attitude that strikes NW and dips 5-30NE, broken into several structural blocks by NE-, NW-, and N-S-trending faults.
Workings included a rock and stream sampling program.
Analytical data results: of 120 rocks analyzed, 6 had 55 to 3,325 part per billion Pt, 5 to 1,400 parts per billion Pd. Results of 39 stream-sediment samples analyzed, four had 60 to 390 parts per billion Pt, <5 to 685 parts per billion Pd.
