The abandoned Pyramid coal mine is located about two kilometres north-east of Reefton, wedged between the Burkes Creek and Terrace coal mines to the south, and Dauntless coal mine to the north. The site consists of some piles of coal, and a large water filled lake, probably a former open cut. Google Earth shows the water as an interesting dark red colour, and it may not be the best place to go swimming in the area.
Little information was found. Newspaper articles in 1944, describe a new un-named coal mine being developed next to the Dauntless mine, the most likely candidate the future Pyramid Mine. Its notes modern trucks and mechanical diggers being used, while the neighbouring Burkes Creek Mine was still using pit ponies.
The 1970's picture in the sources shows a group of miners (possibly owner/workers), consisting of Brian Coglan, Tony Fielding, 'Banksie', and Kevin Miller.
