Iron meteorite, type IIAB, hexahedrite.
The meteorite was recovered on 3 August, 2015, at Lignana, near Pontito (Pescia municipality), when a lumberjack appointed by meteorite collector Mario Goiorani to explore the area (where a fireball was witnessed on October 23, 1986, by the same Mario Goiorani) with a metal detector and a GPS, found several bomb slivers and a single small, rounded, metallic sample completely covered by rust and buried in the ground at a depth of about 10 cm. The main mass, 37 g, displays an ablated outer surface. It was cut on one side to get the specimen for analysis. No Widmanstaetten pattern was visible on the etched surface. An 11 g sample and a polished section are on deposit at Museo di Storia Naturale dell'Università degli Studi di Firenze (MSN-Fi), Florence.
A 1 cm × 1 cm chip of the sample was analyzed by SEM. No exsolution lamellae were detected in BSE in the exposed area. A SEM X-ray linescan performed across the entire section provided a homogeneous kamacitic composition with no appreciable variations. Bulk composition include Ni=59.4 mg/g, Co=4.7 mg/g; Cu=141 μ/g, Ga=55.5 μ/g, Ge=166 μ/g, AS=4.1 μ/g, W=1.3 μ/g, Ir=0.07 μ/g, Pt=3.2 μ/g, Pd=2.3 μ/g, Ru=3.0 μ/g, Os=5.2 μ/g, Rh=1.6 μ/g, Ag=0.6 μ/g, Sb=0.3 μ/g.
