A former salt occurrence/mine located 2.5 km (1.5 miles) WSW of Clute and 1.5 miles S20E of Stratton Ridge. Operated by the Dow Chemical Company. MRDS database accuracy for this location is not stated. Now used for the underground storage of LPG.
NOTE: The geographic coordinates presented are taken from the topo map at the approximate center of the cluster of salt wells. The USGS MRDS database file presents coordinates that correspond to gas wells quite some distance from the salt mine operation.
Mineralization is a salt dome deposit (Mineral occurrence model information: Model code: 252; USGS model code: 35a.4 (35ad); Deposit model name: Salt domes: diapiric salt structures), hosted in Middle Jurassic Louann salt. The ore body is a diapir with a depth-to-top of 381 meters. Local rocks include alluvium.
Local geologic structures include the Stratton Ridge piercement salt dome.
Workings include infrastructure and wells for the solution mining of salt.
