A former Fe occurrence/mine located in the center NE¼NW¼ sec. 25, T28N, R5E, 5th Principal Meridian, 6.0 km (3.7 miles) S of Greenville, on National Forest land. First produced in 1929. Owned by Lemons (100%), Missouri (1978). MRDS database accuracy for this location is not stated.
The ore body is 3 meters thick, 64 meters wide and 64 meters long with a depth-to-top of 5 meters. Ore body No. 1 sedimentary and tabular. Ore body No. 2 is lenticular. Ore body No. 3 is pipe-like. The primary mode of origin was residual concentration and the secondary mode was oxidation. Primary ore control was lithology and the secondary control, was fracturing. There is no wallrock alteration. The ore occurs as pockets of limonite/hematite in the residuum or in cavities in underlying rock. The ore is in residuum overlying Jefferson City and Roubidoux formations. Mineral gangue consists of soil matrix, mostly kaolinite, quartz and chert. Local rocks include rocks of the Roubidoux Formation.
The ore grade of 37.8% Fe has been used. This is an estimate of the average grade for all remaining reserves. Actual grade for each mine will vary but is not below 35% Fe.
