Ordinary chondrite (L5)
Find, 1957; 6.8 kg
A single mass was recovered. Inspections revealed a chondritic mass of variegated colors (dark, brown, reddish, grey, metallic) in a matrix with largely equilibrated silicates. Compositionally, equilibrated olivine (Fa25) and orthopyroxene ('hypersthene') is characteristic of the L-chondrite chemical group. Mineralogically the meteorite consists primarily of olivine accompanied by orthopyroxene along with minor troilite and Fe-Ni metal. Accessory chromite, copper, and ilmenite are also reported. Limonite staining is pervasive in some sections.
The main mass has been kept at Fort Hays Kansas State College.
