Note: There is also a Reid and Ranken historic mine near Canbelego about three kilometres to the north.
The original owners were Joseph Ranken and John Poland Conley who prospected the area in 1907 to 1908. The Ranken's Canbelego Reward Copper Mining Company NL was floated April 1907.
The new company had seven shareholders, mostly merchants from Cobar. George Marshe was appointed mine manager. Contractors were employed to sink a shaft and reports on this continue until the end of the year. The shaft reached 100 feet depth. Ore was assayed as 5.9% Cu and 11.8% Cu with trace Au and Ag in both cases.
