Zeolites were common in the Eocene basalt of the Cresent Formation in the Shine Quarry, north of Highway 104, 4 miles west of the Hood Canal bridge, Jefferson County, Washington. A locked gate is present at Highway 104 with a one mile road leading to the quarry. Collecting is not allowed Monday to Saturday. Collecting is best done on Sunday when the quarry is not in operation. Six black basalt flows, each separated by a red bake zone, formed an arch in the quarry from 1970 to 2000. These flows contained tiny vesicles lined with levyne, mesolite, and thomsonite and larger cavities with stilbite, thomsonite, mesolite, calcite, laumontite and others. Laumontite is by far the most common species although is avoided due to it's dehydration and crumbling. Some pockets, 2 meters long, were lined with laumontite crystals, up to 3 cm long.

Study of the minerals in the quarry indicates two generations of zeolite crystallization indicated by different crystal form and color of the 1st generation and 2nd generation species separated by a green smectite crystallization.

The zeolite-bearing flows have been completely quarried out. Continued work in lower flows in the quarry has produced no zeolites.
