Cava L'Americana ("Cava di Bisuschio"), Besano, Valceresio (Val Ceresio), Provincia di Varese, Lombardia, Italia
Abandoned limestone quarry for crushed stone production located to the south of Besano at the westernmost foot of Monte Sant'Elia. This quarry is sometimes mentioned under the improper name of "Bisuschio quarry" ("Cava di Bisuschio"), because it was connected through a branch line to Bisuschio-Viggiù railway station.
The quarry is famous for the yellow-brownish rhombohedral crystals of calcite, sometimes forming strange aggregates consisting of a parallel growth of smaller crystals with a single large "capping" crystal, which makes them look a bit like a mushroom.
