Vote for your favorite mineral in #MinCup26! - Sphalerite vs. Anorthite

Dimension Stone. Marble. For amethyst nearby see the Great Australian Amethyst Mine Mindat locality.

The marble quarry is adjacent to the Wyloo-Kooline Road, 17 kilometres south-east of the Wyloo pastoral station homestead. It contains brecciated dolomitic marble. The quarry was developed by Kinetic Mining Pty Ltd across 1986 to 1987, then owned by Marbloc (W.A.) Pty Ltd. Their intention was to export marble blocks to Italy. Little left the site, and 49 blocks from this operation remain stranded at the location (2010). The deposit contains a considerable resource of marble.

An example of the product can be found in the foyer of the Police Headquarters Adelaide Terrace Perth.

The stone is intensely brecciated dolomitic marble, with interbedded fine grained red-brown material of a chert like appearance. The material was then recemented by veins of coarse grained pink sparry carbonate. The brecciated areas contain cream coloured carbonate, and quartz rich fragments in a dark grey-green matrix of carbonate, with hematite, chlorite, quartz, sericite and talc, cut by zoned veins of pink and cream dolerite.

The source states there are several marble deposits reported in the region, most now lost. The writer has not listed on Mindat dimension stone prospects, only those where mining has taken place. Western Australia has a number of dolomitic marble prospects which remain undeveloped.
