Llanos de Arenalejos
Granoblastic whitish dolomitic marble where subvertical joints are filled by limonite pseudomorphs after pyrite. Bedrock joints are rather thin, ranging in aperture between 0.2 to 1.5 cm, thus the limonite pseudomorphs after pyrite are slightly platy. Mineralization zones are limited to those areas affected by joints intersections.
The weathering process across the joints reduces the quality of crystals faces. The sizes of crystals can reach up to 7 cm, turning in so attractive aggregates of cubic crystals in a tree-shaped growing.
A low-angle shear zone resulted close to the site, generating a decomposed marble. A lower unit of garnet gneiss (kinzigite) crops out in the neighbourhood.
Within the Sierra Blanquilla unit, we can also find small adits where iron hydroxides were mined.
