A former salt-S-limestone occurrence/mine located 10.7 km (6.7 miles) SSE of Rosenberg, on private land. Discovered in 1922. Operated by the Union Sulfur Company. Operated during the period 1925-1926. MRDS database accuracy for this location is not stated. Sulfur and dome discovered during an oil test in 1922. Explored for sulfur during the period 1923-1925.
Mineralization is a salt dome deposit (Mineral occurrence model information: Model code: 255; USGS model code: 35a.7 (35ag); deposit model name: Salt-dome sulfur), hosted in the Middle Jurassic Louann limestone and salt. The ore body has a depth-to-top of 137.16 meters. The depth to caprock is 450 feet and to the salt it is 635 feet. Salt volume calculated to 1.8 cubic miles to a depth of 10,000 feet. Local alteration includes biogenic alteration of anhydrock to limestone. Local rocks include rocks of the Beaumont Formation, areas are predominantly clay.
Workings included the surface infrastructure for the Frasch production of sulfur.
