The Trump Gold Mine was active from 1902 to 1906. It is north of the Strathfield Gold Mine. Strike and Ryan (surnames) applied for it as a reward lease in 1902 after finding alluvial gold. This led to a gold rush that turned out a duffer. The reef was discovered by the alluvial miners. Strike and Ryan obtained a large amount of gold, before a heavy inflow of water saw them abandon the lease.
The Barry brothers, armed with a more powerful pump, arrived at the lease from 1904 to 1906. The shaft was sunk to 220 foot on a reef 2 to 3 feet wide. The short shoots in the reef and much water eventually also defeated their efforts.
The mine produced 406.50 tonnes of ore at 63.95 g/t yielding 849.21 ounces of gold.
The mine was last worked by prospectors in the 1950's. It was explored by the Spargo company in 1989. They re-entered the old workings, and sampled the 50 metre level in the main shaft.
Above 45 metres the ground transitions to a friable highly weathered kaolin, to bedrock below this being highly silicified and pyritic, within a stock work zone. Within the bedrock is quartz veining stock worked shear zone. Gold is found in a supergene zone.
