An historic former small gold mine.

Havilah was owned by George Cooper, Doolan, Jacob and Mathews (surnames) from 1908 to at least 1912. Cooper was a local pastoralist.

At this time across 700 feet on a north-south trending reef were five shafts. The first was a prospecting shaft to 35 feet deep on a 3 foot wide reef, with 20 feet of stoping either side of the shaft: No. 2 shaft 35 feet deep connected at that level to No.1 and No. 3 shafts on the reef 3 foot wide; No.3 shaft 150 feet deep but an intrusive belt of feldspar cuts the reef at the 25 foot level, the reef coming in again at 30 feet, then at 100 feet the reef cuts out again with an intrusive belt of diorite at the northern end; No. 4 at 1911 the shaft was being sunk at that stage to 20 feet on a reef 2 feet wide; No. 5 being the furthest south the shaft was down to 50 feet with 50 feet of driving on the reef 2 foot wide. Described as porphyry country with some feldspar.

By the following year Tom Creer on behalf of an Adelaide syndicate owned a number of leases in the area including an option on the Havilah. They failed to find enough capital to sink a well for water and erect a battery, and abandoned the leases. 205 tonnes of ore had been extracted for 231 ounces of gold from a shaft called Havilah South.

In 1912, B. Zowe had pegged the lease on the east side of the Havilah, and Josh Joyce a lease the western side. Joyce wrote a letter to the newspapers complaining he had been the only prospector in the area for years, and had failed to convince anyone of the areas worth until the 1912 pegging rush. H. or Frank Winter pegged a lease at the southern end, and another adjoining to the east. To the north Tom Hughes on behalf of a Kalgoorlie syndicate pegged a lease, as well as two others in the area. Half a mile to the east (possibly Marconi mine area), Crews and party pegged a reef valued at 17dwt. North of this another lease pegged by Tom Hughes and to the south a lease by Tom Creer.

By 1917, Dr. Lavers of Laverton fame, had taken over several leases in the area including the Havilah. Lavers registered a syndicate in Perth called the Melba Proprietary Gold Mines. Exploratory work was commenced including sinking a shaft to 140 feet deep, on a reef 2 feet wide. No further information was found.

It should be noted that the Gindalbie field straddles the border with Menzies Shire.
