Golden Cities is 10 kilometres east north-east of Broad Arrow, as two abandoned open pits, the eastern one called Golden Cities and 200 metres to the west another pit called Oriental.
The deposit was discovered by Royce William (Bill) Allen, a prospector with fifty years experience, and whose father at one time managed the Big Bell mine near Cue. It was ranked as the 41st largest gold deposit in Western Australia.
It was further explored by AMX Resources across 1997 to 1999, but low gold prices led them to abandon the project. The pits were developed by Auriongold across 2001 to 2002. The tenements are presently held by Norton Goldfields who operate the Paddington mill.
The deposit is hosted by the Scotia Kanowna Domain monzogranite, with gold found in supergene oxide laterite ore, and quartz veins and sulphides as primary mineralisation in granite and basalt. The mines accessed an ore body called Havana Suva.
