Alluvial gold deposits in fine sediments along the right and left banks of River Ticino, mainly derived from primary deposits of the Monte Rosa gold district and Malcantone.
Placers, where gold was panned since ancient times, are located in the municipal territories of Cassolnovo, Vigevano, Bereguardo, Torre d'Isola, Zerbolò, Pavia (from 1757 to 1883 the rural territory outside the city walls was part of the former municipality of Corpi Santi), and Travacò Siccomario.
The average composition of gold is: 90.6 wt% Au, 7.0 wt% Ag, 2.4 wt% other metals.
