The Boddington Gold Mine is a historic lease, in the vicinity of the modern Caledonia open pits, some 200 metres north-east of the railway fetter's cottages on the highway.

The original prospector was Boddington (surname), and it was one of the original leases pegged shortly after gold was discovered here in 1893. It adjoined the Caledonia lease to the west. The Goongarrie Goldfields Limited was floated in 1895 to acquire 36 acres, including the Boddington, from the Prospecting and General Development Syndicate. 70 000 pounds was raised, a battery erected and workings development but only down to 50 feet. The company was voluntarily wound up, and the mine sold to the Mimosa Company, better known as the Ikey Mo.

The shaft was sunk to 211 feet, on a reef too low to pay. 4 feet of solid quartz was striped for 200 yards along the surface. By 1900 the company went broke, after a large amount of money had been frittered away building expensive houses and office buildings. The battery had also been managed in an inefficient way. This is despite an estimated 20 000 ounces of gold won from the mine so far.

The mine was sold to Black (surname) in 1902, who operated a machinery business in Kalgoorlie. It was then let on tribute and part ownership to Watt (a former metallurgist at the Kalgurli mine on the Golden Mile), Bob Hay, and Chalmers, both practical miners. They mined a 4 foot reef at the bottom of the workings, however the upper stopes were exhausted.

By 1910, the mine was being worked by prospectors Kirnan and Grenfell, and shortly after Kirnan and Martin. The mine was briefly named Great Luck by them, an ironic title considering the tale of woe so far. They eventually uncovered two new reefs or leaders, and obtained 4000 pounds worth of gold from 20 tonnes of ore. The New Boddington Syndicate was formed to take an option over the mine in 1913, and was active for several years producing 5238 ounces from 11 818 tonnes of ore.
