A former placer Au occurrence/mine located in sec. 9, T22N, R10E, MDM, about 0.9 km (0.6 mile) SE of Pilot Peak, along the West Branch Hopkins Creek and about 6.6 km NE of Gibsonville (Sierra County). MRDS database stated accuracy for this location is 500 meters.
NOTE: The USGS MRDS database file presents geographic coordinates of -120.86184, 39.90298 for this locality. These coordinates are in apparent error and place this locality distant from the stated location in sec. 9, T22N, R10E, MDM. The coordinates presented in this file are derived from the Montana State University TRS database for the center of sec. 9. The error appears to be in the latitude value.
Local rocks include Paleozoic marine rocks, undivided, unit 4 (Western Sierra Nevada).
