The Menzies Alpha Gold Mine is 500 metres south of the Lady Shenton Pit, in turn about 1 kilometre south of Menzies. It can be located by heading south along the track bordering the railway line where it crosses the highway south of Menzies. The mine area is 100 metres west of the railway as several acres of disturbed ground.

The Menzies Alpha Leases Limited was floated in London in April 1896 with 120 000 pounds capital. They controlled the northern lease called Stirling, and adjoining southern lease called Alpha. Initially efforts were made on the Stirling lease to locate the Shenton Lode, however prospecting on the Alpha lease showed some rich ground and interest swung to this instead. The company paid dividends. The northern lease had the Stirling Shaft while the southern Alpha lease had up to five shafts lettered A to E. Coarse gold was found in ore impregnated with galena. Like other mines in the area, but unusual overall, rich gold was often found several feet from the veins in hard diorite.

In 1900, the directors stated the company was entering 'an era of prosperity is now assured'. These type of statements are almost guaranteed to generate a shareholder lynch mob, when things turn pear-shaped. By 1904 the company ceased mining and let the mine out to a queue of tributers, some making substantial money.

The tailings were removed from the area and processed in 1996, achieving 9500 tonnes of ore at 2.4 g/t yielding 735 ounces of gold.
