The Jasper Flat Gold Mine is a large, abandoned, water filled open pit , approximately 15 kilometres north of Leonora, and 2 kilometres west of the Goldfields Highway.

The mine was originally known as the Auckland. It was developed by the Hewitt brothers from 1908 to 1916, when it and the nearby Casino gold mine was taken over by the African Gold Corporation. That name appears to have quickly changed to the Chaffers Gold Mining Company, who developed it further until 1919. An open pit was developed at the site in the late 1990's.

Estimated resources in the late 1990's was 2.6Mt at 1.95 g/t. The deposit is located in the Sons of Gwalia Shear Zone. Historically, the ground was hard granite with the lode in quartz and quartzite, veins ranging from a thread to 15 feet wide. During the Hewitt's tenure 600 tonnes of ore had been treated averaging 19 dwt.

The mine area contains three silica rich chert-hematite banded iron formation intervals close to the granite-greenstone boundary, folded into a F2 antiform, and most of the area is in the hinge of this fold. The zone contains hematite-magnetite-grunerite-quartz along a 3 kilometre strike length, the folds plunging moderately north-east.

The area has abundant porphyry dykes, forming tensional veins within a talc-chlorite schist, although the dykes do not extend into the structurally underlying granite or gneiss.
