Vote for your favorite mineral in #MinCup26! - Quartz vs. Asagiite
It's a classic vs a newbie as the most common named mineral in the crust Quartz is up against an exceedingly-rare sea foam-green mineral discovered just a few years ago Asagiite.

Oxide- and apatite-rich modally layered gabbronorite in the Bjerkreim-Sokndal Layered Intrusion in the Rogaland Anorthosite Province. The stratigraphic sequence, to which the Teksevatnet S deposit belongs, is conventionally denoted MCU4-e and may be followed along strike from Rappstad in the southern extension around the hinge of the Bjerkreim lobe to Ualand in the north-eastern extension - a total distance of approximately 25 km. The two uppermost zones in MCU IV (the e- and f-zones) contain apatite in addition to ilmenite and magnetite. The stratigraphic thickness of these two zones exceeds 1 km in the central part, however the economic part is restricted to the lowermost part (50-170 m) of zone e. The zone of economic interest is further restricted to the northeastern part of the Bjerkreim lobe, the area between Terland and Ualand, a total distance of ~10 km.

In the area of Teksevatnet the thickness of MCU4e zone has been reduced significantly compared to the Terland area (see Terland S in Eigersund county). At Teksevatnet S the thickness is in the order of 500 m of MCU IVe. The economic part has a thickness of approximately 80m. The amounts of apatite, ilmenite and magnetite have increased slightly with respect to Teksestemmen (see Teksevatnet-Teksestemmen in Eigersund county). The profile at Teksevatnet S was sampled along outcrops on the shore of lake Teksevatnet at a peninsula east north east of Haugtjørna just north of the railway embankment. The lake was 2 m lower than normal water level at the time of observation and sampling. In contrast to locations at Teksestemmen several zones of prominent layering has been encountered. A total of 5 samples represent an 80m thick sequence of partly economic interest (19-35% norm value minerals). Norm calculations from XRF whole rock analyses gives an average of 10.9 % ilmenite, 7.0 % magnetite and 10.9 % apatite. The mineral composition of ilmenite and magnetite has been analysed by electron microprobe giving in average 0.8 % MgO in ilmenite and 0.84 % V2O3 in magnetite.
