Between 2005 and early 2015 this was Benin's major site of artisanal small scale mining for "coltan", i.e. columbite-tantalite. The Nigerian small scale miners extracted "coltan" from a series of pits in a deeply weathered pegmatites as well as from eluvial sources in the vicinity.

Professional exploration of the occurrence(s) has started only in May 2015.
