In researching the name, a number of options came forth. The mine could be named after a large gold nugget found in the 1860's elsewhere. Or, a drinking vessel, various varieties of fruit and vegetables, or a 19th Century novel. The 1970's Swedish pop group, and 1980's bicycle were discounted.
GML 1460. The mine adjoined the Barrambie Range gold mine at its northern end. It was active from at least 1905, but this did not last long as it was forfeited for not being worked in September 1906. James Laurence Bell took over, and is noted as prospecting on the lease the next year, but little else was found.
