Located 1 kilometre west of Sandstone, and 100-200 metres north of the Sandstone-Mount Magnet Road. There is a north-south line of historic shafts, and closer to the road an east-west line of shafts. A further one kilometre west, and some 500 metres north of the road is another north-south line of shafts.

Only limited information was found of activity before 1915 One source states the Wanderie mine was owned by Wright and party in 1904, crushing 65.5 tonnes for 124 ounces at 10 dwt. There was a Wanderie mine, but several other leases in the immediate area labelled the Wanderie group.

The Department of Mines reports on the group in 1906, 1907 and 1913. In 1906 it named Wanderie, Wanderie North and Wanderie West as active mines, all on a low grade reef with occasional good patches.

In 1907, it states there is a Wanderie No. 1 North GML 161b with two shafts to 100 feet down, on a north-south lode 1 foot wide. It notes 48 tonnes at 37.5 dwt, 100 tonnes at 18 dwt, 155 tonnes at 136 ounces 12 dwt, and 100 tonnes at 84 ounces 14 dwt had been crushed.

The Wanderie No. 1 West GML 23b, had three shafts at 107, 75 and 40 feet deep, with two further prospecting shafts. These were on a north-west to south-east reef, dipping south on a 4-6 foot wide lode. 500 tonnes had been crushed at 18 dwt.

The Wanderie mine GML 8b, was on the same reef with the main shaft down to 135 feet on a 4-6 feet wide lode. 1201 tonnes at 1761 ounces had been crushed.

In 1913, the leases were named Wanderie, Wanderie East and Trafalgar, all owned by the one party yielding 390 tonnes at 718 ounces. There was also a separately owned lease called the Pyx with a shaft down to 193 feet on a reef averaging 2 feet wide.
