Norseman No. 1 South Gold Mine
Historic mine from the late 1890's. Held by the Royal Dane Gold Mining Company. The property contained a network of quartz porphyry dykes at the northern end of the lease. The reef takes a sharp bend in this area. The lease contained three shafts. When inspected in 1906, they were already in a state of dis-repair. The first was down to 320 feet on a large reef in the last 5 feet of the shaft. The southern shaft was for prospecting and was 70 feet deep. The northern shaft was down 200 feet, with drives at the 50, 103, and 187 levels. The quartz in the reef was very white, with low gold grades, and increasing pyrite with depth.
