Discovered by Placer Exploration in 1970. Nickel grade information for the time is very limited, however the best result was an intersection showing 3 metres at 3.1 % Ni. Located approximately 5 kilometres south-west of the Penfolds group of gold mines. The deposit is part of the poorly exposed Abattoir-Moorebar East ultramafic sequence, and the prospect occurs within two elongated belts east of the Abattoir Fault. A porphyry dyke intrudes the ultramafic sequence, with mineralisation hosted by serpentine within 15 metres of the dyke. The mineralisation occurs as very fine Fe-Ni-Cu sulphides including aggregate magnetite. The dyke contains minor pyrite and chalcopyrite.
