This was a small gold mine near the Ingliston and Ingliston Extended gold mines.
H. Campbell and J.A. Osborne first pegged the lease in September 1903 as the Lost Cop lease (GML 488M). Other early parties who owned the mine called it Brown Hill and Commodore Brown Hill.
It was chiefly explored by subsequent owners the Kearns brothers in 1907. The first crushing was found in 1908, with intermittent records of crushings to 1917.
The mine was under option to Sidney Yeo in 1910. Then in 1911, Bewick Moreing and Company took out a sampling option.
In 1914, a private Tasmanian syndicate took out a twelve month option over the mine, installing machinery and sinking a new shaft to 210 feet, but abandoned it after its term stating the ore was too low a grade. By this date 14 000 tonnes of ore had come out of the mine on a lode 10 to 30 feet wide.
The neighbouring Commodore gold mine had a half interest in the lease in 1917, and this year they purchase the remaining half interest, and mine the site in conjunction with their main mine. They note difficulties in treating the ore from the mine.
The mine was un-watered in 1934 by the Ingliston Alberts Development Company Nl, who explored the site.
The country is black talc-chlorite-carbonate rock, brown when weathered, and traversed by joints and shear zones trending north-south, and some more obliquely. There is also sheared dolerite rock, extensively weathered, decomposed, brown and gritty. The quartz veins are small to 6 inches wide, with the most consistent values along the footwall, where the ore is redder. There is good ore, but not as strong on gold values on the hanging wall, with low grade between.
