The mine is 500 metres north of the Turn of the Tide gold mine, both a few kilometres east of the main Reedy's gold mine centre, on a parallel shear. Gold was discovered here by Bayley and Parkins (Turn of the Tide), and Campbell/Johnston soon took up the Culculli lease in 1916.
Several other prospectors were taking out minor amounts of ore north of here between 1916 and 1920 including W. Bowie, Lupton and Party, Jennings and Party (Wild Rabbit lease), Malpas and Party (Welcome lease), Prendergast and Party, Pearce and Irvine, Holzmann amongst several others as a prospecting area. The quartz reefs were said to be broken and small in kaolin with gold found at the 100 foot level.
By 1920 Campbell and Johnston had removed 176 tonnes of ore for 1397 oz at 13 dwt/t. The area remained largely quiet apart from the occasional prospecting endeavour across the 1920's and 1930's. The present open pit was developed in the 1980's and 90's.
