Montecorto is a town and municipality in the province of Málaga, part of the autonomous community of Andalusia in southern Spain. It was separated from the municipality of Ronda on 17 October 2014.

Historical mining group (Imperio, Segundo Imperio, Antiguo Romano, La Llave, Gato Negro, Mina Amarilla, Victoria, Ampliación de Victoria) dated from the 16th century, and preferably solid mining period between 1871 and 1892 (late 19th century). Iron ores were also mined by the Roman Empire at the closely related settlement and urban civilization of Acinipo (Ancient Ronda, Arunda Roman province). Late mining works are reported until the year 1957 (Sorpresa mine).

Because of the richness of the iron-copper ores, an ancient foundry was settled in the neighbourhood of the mine, in the parish of Alcaurias Altas.

Unfortunately, the locality is on private property and can not be accessed without authorization.

The mineralization is stratiform, following the carbonate-hosted rock, basically, iron masses mainly formed by enriched massive pure hematite-limonite-goethite included in carbonatic sequences formed by light-yellowish fine-grained dolomites, breccias and dolomitic breccia of Triassic-InfraLias age. The mining group are emplaced to horizons which follow the contact zone to red sandstone-pelite members of Buntsandstein facies (Permotriassic), where volcanic rock sequences (dolerites) are intruded (Pto de Malaver). Recent Debris and cobbly-gravelly colluvium covered the natural slopes where the adits are emplaced. The area has great environmental and archaeological value. Silex and Jasper have been mined since the ancient Neolithic Prehistoric age.
