The Cue One Gold Mine is on the northern outskirts of the Cue townsite, immediately west of the highway. The caravan park backs onto it. The area contains a pile of overgrown one hundred year old battery sands, three shafts, a small shed, minor old machinery, and various shallow alluvial pits. The mine gained its name as it was the first lease issued by the Cue warden's office.

The initial prospectors dollied 60 oz of gold, and crushed a further 329 tonnes for 709 oz at 18 dwt. The mine was sold to a local Perth company, who erected a poppet head, machinery and a 16 head stamp battery. The lease was 12 acres. The reef struck north-west to south-east, and the average width being 2 feet 6 inches. At times the reef bulged to great masses of ore, and at other spots shrunk to leader status. The quartz near the surface was glassy, while at depth became darker and more mineralised. The company sunk three connected shafts, and appointed a Mr Rayfield from the Burnett region Queensland as Mine Manager.

At the end of 1895, the mine was purchased by a London company for 45 000 pounds as Cue One Proprietary. Regular crushings are reported until the end of 1897 when they stop. The mine was then sold to another London company as Cue Consolidated Gold Mines Ltd. They undertook some mining from the existing workings for twelve months, then in March 1899 applied to the warden for an exemption. The warden dismissed their claim the mine was un-workable as laughable. Not deterred they applied again the following month, and received an even greater rebuke. The company then abandoned the lease.

In 1899 it was under tribute to the Newton brothers, Rodgers and Party. Around 1901, local miners Heydon and Chesson (surnames) took over the mine. Crushings are reported from them and a couple of tributors for about two years, until a request for government assistance was refused. The battery crushed for the public until 1908.
